painter + designer + storyteller
california-based artist mary-catherine hodges creates paintings that consider the mnemonic and emotive capacity of abstraction and typography. growing up between texas, north carolina, and alabama, her paintings and design are heavily influenced by folk art from the american south. her paintings oppose traditional notions of composition—investigating the amalgamation of bodies of color, drawing and narrative writing, merging tropes of both highbrow and lowbrow art.
mary-catherine received her ba in art history from the university of colorado, boulder. she currently lives and works in los angeles.
